Early Thursday morning Greek lawmakers voted to approved austerity measures, a move that goes against Greece’s Prime Minister Tsipras’ Syriza Party’s platform. The austerity measures were required by its creditors as terms of a $94 billion bailout package.
Mr. Tsipras was elected on the promise of anti-austerity measures, but convinced lawmakers to vote for the bailout - just a week after voters denied a similar deal in a referendum he called for.
