At a campaign event in Newton, Iowa the Republican presidential candidate condemned the Friday shooting in Colorado Springs that left three people dead, but said there’s little evidence about the motivations of alleged shooter Robert Dear.
“I think there’s been some vicious rhetoric on the left blaming those who are pro-life,” Cruz said. “It’s also been reported that he was registered as an independent and a woman and a transgendered leftist activist. If that’s what he is, I don’t think it’s fair to blame the rhetoric on the left. This is a murderer,” he added.
“The media promptly wants to blame him on the pro-life movement when at this point, there’s very little evidence to indicate that.”
When asked if he would label the shooting as domestic terrorism Cruz called it a “multiple murder of what appears to be a deranged individual.”
“We’ll find more about the facts of it, but I don’t think we should jump to conclusion until we know actually the facts of this individual,” Cruz added.
