His offer came during a closed-door meeting of the Freedom Caucus that was called to discuss his action. Sources said fellow board members were left with the impression Meadows would follow through with his resignation.
Alyssa Farah, a spokeswoman for Meadows, said Wednesday that her boss would not be stepping down from the board but did confirm that he offered his resignation. “It is incorrect that Mr. Meadows has resigned his board position on HFC,” Farah said. “While he did make the offer to resign he will remain in his position on the HFC board.”
Meadows was one of nine Republicans who in January co-founded the Freed Caucus, a group of more than 40 conservative lawmakers led by Chairman Jim Jordan (R - Ohio).
Earlier this week, Jordan and other Freedom Caucus members tried to convince Meadows to drop his plans to offer the resolution.
